What is a LeRobot arm?
LeRobot is Hugging Face’s open-source framework for real-world robotics, data collection and model training—not the name of one physical robot. The SO-101 is a low-cost leader-and-follower robot arm supported by LeRobot, so builders often call it the “LeRobot arm” or “Hugging Face robot arm.”
If you searched for LeRobot SO-101, LeRobot SO101, SO-ARM101, Hugging Face SO-101 arm, LeRobot robot arm kit or LeRobot arm India, this guide covers the printed structure and the additional hardware needed for that build.
SO-ARM100 versus LeRobot SO-101
The repository is still commonly found under the SO-ARM100 name, but its maintainers now present SO-101 as the next-generation design. Their documentation describes improved wiring, easier assembly without removing motor gears, and updated leader-arm motors. For a fresh build, SO-101 is the sensible default. SO-ARM100 matters when you already own compatible parts or need to reproduce an older build.
This naming overlap is also why our listing uses both terms: it helps builders who discovered the older name reach the current option without hiding the version change.
LeRobot SO-101 follower and leader arms
Follower arm
This is the working robot. It reproduces movement during teleoperation and is the arm used when running recorded or learned behaviours.
Leader arm
This is the demonstration controller shaped like an arm. A person moves it to command the follower and collect demonstrations.
You can build a follower by itself, but a paired leader-and-follower setup is the common path when your goal is teleoperation and data collection.
Which LeRobot SO-101 parts are 3D printed?
The current upstream SO-101 printing guide groups the files into nine shared components, three leader-specific components, and two follower-specific components:
| Set | Printed components listed upstream |
|---|---|
| Common to both | Base, shoulder motor holder, shoulder flex/body, upper arm, elbow flex/body, forearm, wrist flex/body, wrist roll pitch, and gripper static jaw |
| Leader only | Gripper handle, trigger, and leader wrist roll |
| Follower only | Gripper moving jaw and follower wrist roll |
File lists can change. A seller should record the exact upstream revision used for a batch so the customer is not left with an unexplained mixture of parts.
What else does a LeRobot robot arm kit need?
A working robot also needs the non-printed bill of materials. Broadly, that includes:
- Smart servo motors appropriate to the chosen version and arm
- Motor control board, power supply and USB connection
- Cables, bearings, clamps, fasteners and small mechanical hardware
- A camera if your intended learning workflow needs vision
- A computer and the software environment used to control or train the arm
Use the current official bill of materials when purchasing. Compatibility can depend on the arm version, motor choice and region-specific sourcing.
Print settings are only the starting point
The project’s current guidance uses PLA+, 15% infill, and either a 0.4 mm nozzle at 0.2 mm layer height or a 0.6 mm nozzle at 0.4 mm layer height. It also calls for supports while avoiding support inside horizontal screw holes, and provides a gauge model for fit checks.
Those settings do not automatically guarantee a usable set. Printer calibration, hole shrinkage, support removal, orientation, material consistency and motor fit still need practical checks. InfiBuild now lists the printed parts build-to-order at a fixed introductory price while reserving the complete hardware kit for end-to-end validation.
Our India rollout plan
- Printed parts: follower, leader and paired sets are now listed build-to-order, with imagery based on real InfiBuild test prints.
- Build documentation: record the exact file revision, print profile, fit issues and changes found during assembly.
- Locally sourced complete kit: only after motors, electronics and small hardware have been sourced and the full build has worked end to end.
- Support boundary: state clearly whether each future listing is parts-only, unassembled hardware, assembled, or calibrated.
How to build a LeRobot arm in India
Read the official LeRobot SO-101 guide and upstream hardware documentation first. Decide whether you need a follower, leader, or both, then source the current motor, electronics and fastener bill of materials. If you want InfiBuild to handle the 3D-printed parts, choose your set, PLA+ colour and delivery location through our India listing.
